About the Position:

The Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis (CESTA) and the Stanford University Libraries’ Center for Interdisciplinary Research (CIDR) are seeking an innovative and experienced Digital Scholarship Coordinator to help lead the development of digital collections, projects, and publications in a 3-year fixed term position. This person will be a key member of CESTA, CIDR, and the Humanities and Area Studies subject specialists group, facilitating collaboration among these groups. This person will connect the Libraries’ collections and resources with scholars involved with the aforementioned groups and support CESTA’s projects and publications by leveraging the Libraries’ infrastructure and expertise. The Digital Scholarship Coordinator will be responsible for the Libraries’ Digital Humanities collection budget. The Digital Scholarship Coordinator will aid CESTA members in supporting ongoing partnerships with the national and international digital humanities and will work with the center to align CESTA projects with efforts at peer institutions, with particular attention to scholarly editing and communication, and working within the norms of research dissemination.

The Digital Scholarship Coordinator will be based jointly in CESTA and the Stanford Libraries, serving as a colleague with distinguished and widely-recognized team of other academic technologists, curators and software developers who collectively combine decades of expertise in the development and archival work necessary for creating, maintaining and presenting digital humanities projects. The candidate would also have expertise in the methods of the computational social sciences and digital humanities. This person’s activities will support research and teaching in these fields for the Stanford community along with other specialists. CESTA has a strong track record of developing innovative digital humanities projects through its member scholars, its constituent labs (including the Spatial History Project, the Literary Lab, Humanities+Design, the Poetic Media Lab and Text Technologies), and through partnerships with organizations such as the Stanford Humanities Center.

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of scholarship making use of digital humanities methodologies and a well-developed practice around digital accessibility and archiving. This specialist will bring a strong ethos of service and have experience working collaboratively across different groups, managing a complex set of diverse needs, priorities, and interests. The successful candidate will have connections with projects, initiatives, and organizations in digital humanities and research library services that could serve as the basis for new collaborations. The person in this role will work with scholars to develop compelling projects and publications that build Stanford’s digital humanities profile nationally and internationally, using tools and methods compatible with the long-term sustainability of that work.
