Job Description
The candidate will be working on a research project to explore the strategies for carbonization of wastes for cement composites. Concrete is the second most consumed material and the production of concrete has a high carbon footprint. Some of the ways to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete include the use of waste such as fly ash, slag as supplementary cementitious materials (SCM). This will reduce the amount of cement, which is a key contributor to the carbon footprint in concrete. Over the service life of the concrete, it is in fact a cabon sink which absorbs carbon dioxide into itself to form cementing compound which will improve on the properties of concrete. In this project, we will be exploring ways to couple the carbon sequestration property of concrete with the more eco-friendly usage of SCM to come out with new sustainable building material that can aid in the carbon dioxide reduction.
Qualifications
- PhD degree in civil engineering or materials engineering with a focus on cement composites
- Experience in the (a) design, (b) characterization and (c) testing of cement composites. Candidates should highlight their experiences in (a), (b) and (c) in their application.
