City University of Hong Kong is a dynamic, fast-growing university that is pursuing excellence in research and professional education. As a publicly funded institution, the University is committed to nurturing and developing students’ talents and creating applicable knowledge to support social and economic advancement. The University has nine Colleges/Schools. The Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health was established in July 2017.  Its mission is to achieve and sustain excellence in teaching and research in veterinary studies through advancing the understanding of the interconnectivity of animal and human health.  The Department is well positioned to provide a strong link between the preclinical veterinary sciences and applied (clinical) veterinary medicine.  In another dimension it focuses on One Health, an area spanning the health of animals, humans and the environment.  The Department plays a key role in teaching students in the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and providing postgraduate research training.  Departmental academic staff members undertake teaching and research across their areas of specialty, and are actively engaged in enhancing the profile and effectiveness of veterinary training, public health and applied research through partnership and strengthening links with industry, business, commerce and other institutions locally and internationally.

The Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Science will start a course-based master’s programme (MSc) in Public Health in September 2021, which will focus on infectious disease epidemiology, ‘One Health’ principles, and biostatistics.  The College and the Department are currently accelerating its recruitment of highly motivated and qualified staff that will contribute to the development of the Master of Science in Public Health.  We are looking for energetic individuals with a background in epidemiology, public health, and/or biostatistics to teach in this graduate-level programme and lead on public health issues centered around infectious disease modeling, surveillance and control, as well as zoonotic diseases and antimicrobial resistance and/or other ‘One Health’ related issues.
