PHARMACY TECHNICIAN, MIT Medical-Pharmacy, to serve as liaison between the pharmacy and its customers by distributing medications, acting as cashier, and navigating customers to the pharmacist’s consultation window.  Will fill prescriptions and interdepartmental orders, wait on customers, pulls drugs from shelves, and enters data into databases; be responsible for unit dose distribution, including maintaining familiarity with medications, dosage forms, and storage requirements; communicate with pharmacists, nursing staff, and others to ensure timely preparation and delivery of medications, including controlled substances in accordance with established policies/procedures and DEA and DPH regulations; and work with supervisor regarding purchasing and inventory control and with vendors to ensure high quality, cost-effective medications are purchased.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  high-school diploma or its equivalent; one year of pharmacy experience, including experience in customer focused environments with direct in-person and telephone contact; pharmacy technician certification from a recognized accredited institution; Massachusetts license with no constraints as a pharmacy technician with Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board in Registration of Pharmacy with PTCB; very strong customer service skills; ability to collaborate as part of a team in order to ensure quality service to customers; desire to create a caring atmosphere for customers; active listening skills; experience assisting patients and/or clinicians with telephone inquiries; attention to detail and accuracy; good organizational, multitasking, problem-solving, diplomacy, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills; and discretion and judgment with confidential information.

PREFERRED: college training in biology or sciences, ability to adapt to change and take ownership of work, pharmacy computer systems experience, and creative problem solving within a team-oriented environment.  Remaining stationary for long periods is often required.
