Research Assistant Professor in Smart City / Spatial Big Data Analytics / Geo- Information Technology (Urban Informatics / Geo-Artificial Intelligence) (two posts)

The Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI) is widely considered as a centre of excellence in both education and research in  Geomatics and related fields. The Department offers a range of academic programmes to both local and overseas students, including Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics, Master of Science in Geomatics and Doctor of Philosophy. LSGI has a very strong research programme that encompasses research activities in the areas of urban informatics, spatial big data analytics, geographical information science, satellite positioning, ubiquitous positioning, photogrammetry and remote sensing, geodesy and geodynamics, environmental monitoring, geo-hazards studies, intelligent transport systems, smart city, utility system management, location-based services, geographical social science and near-surface geophysical survey.  There are currently 18 academic staff, 12 supporting members, and 140 research staff and PhD students in the Department. The total student number is over 500. LSGI has a number of well-equipped research and teaching laboratories. The Department is seeking a highly motivated and suitably qualified individual with research expertise in one of the following areas: Land Surveying, Geographic Information Technology, Spatial Data Science, and Near-surface Geophysical Surveying on Underground Utilities. 

Duties 

The appointees will be required to:

(a)    conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator; 

(b)    provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level; 

(c)    contribute to departmental service; and

(d)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates. 

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a doctoral degree in a related discipline;

(b)    have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;

(c)    be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and

(d)    be highly proficient in written and spoken English.
 
Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Appointments will only be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
