POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE), to join a collaborative project in the groups of professors Keith Nelson (Department of Chemistry) and Christopher Schuh (Department of Materials Science and Engineering). Will work in multidisciplinary teams consisting of graduate students, Ph.D.-level scientists, and faculty at the intersection of micro-mechanics, materials science, and optics. Responsibilities include applying and developing novel optical techniques for microparticle impact studies, primarily involving metallic particles impacting metallic targets to induce structural and chemical responses that can be monitored in real time; student advising/mentoring; and authoring or coauthoring technical presentations, reports and manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in optics, materials science, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, physical chemistry, physics, or related field; demonstrated experience and interest in optical diagnostics (high-speed imaging, spectroscopy) and research focusing on dynamic responses of materials; highly effective organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and presentation skills; and ability to work both individually and as part of a team.
PREFERRED: experience in optics and interest in working with diverse problems.
