The Department of Economics (http://www.ln.edu.hk/econ/) is a multi-cultural community of academics dedicated to excellence in teaching and research. Both of the two recent Research Assessment Exercises have rated Lingnan University’s Department of Economics among the top performers in research output in Hong Kong. Its undergraduate teaching is in the context of an inter-disciplinary social sciences programme, where students can opt for different discipline majors or interdisciplinary areas of interest. The Department also offers MPhil and PhD degrees in economics, as well as a taught programme of MSc in International Banking and Finance (MIBF) and Msc in International Development Economics (MIDE).

The Centre for Competition Policy and Regulation (CCPR: https://www.ln.edu.hk/ccpr/) aims to create a formal knowledge base through rigorous research on key issues of competition and regulation, especially when these issues relate to the market and economic developments in Hong Kong and the region. CCPR strikes to become and maintain as a leading academic platform for competition and regulation research, by promoting such research at Lingnan University as well fostering collaborations with other research institutions / universities, competition law enforcers and governmental bodies, and the real sectors, both locally and overseas. With its enhanced research activities and knowledge creation, CCPR will also be able to generate knowledge transfer and spillovers to society and bring benefit to teaching of competition economics and business strategies.

We invite applications from candidates specializing in Industrial Organization, International Trade, Competition Law / Policy in East Asia, Innovation and preference will be given to empirical researchers.

General Requirements

Applicants should

  1. possess a PhD degree in economics from a reputable university;
  2. be able to teach courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in economics fields effectively;
  3. have undertaken research in the aforementioned field(s); and
  4. be able to publish research output with international impact. Applicants should provide information about their work experience, qualifications, research interests and achievements, and a statement of publication record.

The appointee will (a) teach courses at undergraduate and / or postgraduate levels; (b) participate in independent and joint research programmes (primarily in PPR research project entitled "Can Hong Kong's Current Competition Policy Meet the Challenge of increasing Economic Integration with the Greater Bay Area?"); and (c) perform certain administrative duties (such as serving as Undergraduate Advisor) as assigned by the Head of the Department/Centre.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to two years. Experienced candidate of Postdoctoral Fellow may carry a functional title of Research Assistant Professor.
