Edith Cowan University (ECU) is a large multi-campus institution located in Western Australia (WA) with a strong reputation for excellence in teaching, research and state-of-the-art facilities. Our focus on teaching and research is inspired by engagement and partnerships with those in the many communities in which we serve. ECU is guided by strong values that influence the way we work, and our vision is to be recognised for our world ready graduates and leading edge research. Our purpose is to transform lives and enrich society through education and our world-class research including our commitments on equality, opportunities for disadvantaged people and reducing our impact on the environment. Our diverse and talented staff are committed to achieving ECU's vision.
In order to achieve this vision, ECU will soon be commencing a new phase in the development of its Next Generation Digital Learning Environment: a transition of its Learning Management System (LMS) from Blackboard Original to Canvas. This will be a significant program of work, both in scale and in the impact on the teaching and learning experience.
This role will form part of an LMS Academic Transition Project team located in ECU’s Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT). The Academic Transition Project will contribute to the work of the CLT by ensuring a successful transition of ECU’s courses, staff and students into the new LMS. Working collaboratively with existing CLT staff, and staff and students across ECU, the project team will lead and support the implementation of the new environment, in line with ECU’s Technology Enhanced Learning Standards, and conceptualise, plan and implement a highly supported, whole-of-institution approach to staff and student adoption
The Role
The Centre for Learning and Teaching in conjunction with the University’s LMS Project is seeking Learning Technologies Support Officers who will actively support academics and students to adopt the suite of technologies available at the University and promote innovative use of emerging technologies.
These roles will provide academic staff support, instruction and resourcing for centrally supported teaching and learning technologies. The aim of this support is to maximise the understanding, adoption and effective employment of those technologies to achieve learning and teaching goals, Centre objectives and enhance the student learning experience.
Key Criteria
Suitable candidates will meet the following selection criteria:
- Familiarity with a range of learning technologies, such as LMS and lecture capture, preferably in a higher education environment
- Exceptional customer service is important as the role is required to engage with both academic and professional staff on a day to day basis
- The ability to work cooperatively with others to accomplish joint tasks and common objectives
- Able to anticipate and resolve problems, being proactive to minimise issues and initiating action to deal with problems when they arise
A working knowledge of the Canvas LMS is desirable
You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry and Personal Excellence.
