About the opportunity 

As the Research Development Manager (Strategic Initiatives) you will play a key role leading, developing and coordinating the implementation of university-wide strategies to optimise successful outcomes for major research initiatives. In particular those initiatives relating to Centres such as ARC Centres of Excellence, Industrial Transformation Training Centres and Research Hubs, NHMRC Synergy Grants and Centres of Research Excellence, and Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs) and CRC Projects.

As the Research Development Manager (Strategic Initiatives)you will be pro-active in identifying major research opportunities. You will utilize your excellent partnering skills build collaborative relationships within the University and key external partners who focus on developing competitive funding proposals. This position will see you provide strategic advice and assistance to academic leaders, researchers, and external partners to identify and build internal capability in turn developing high quality, successful research grant applications.

  • the ability to negotiate and influence strategic research funding related matters with members of executive management, external bodies and individuals
  • extensive experience in developing, implementing and critically evaluating business systems and processes at an organisation wide level and can tailor these to an organisation’s strategic direction
  • extensive experience in contributing to strategy and policy development, through to implementation
  • sound knowledge of high-profile funding opportunities, with particular reference to government priority areas, including Centres of Excellence (NHMRC/ARC), CRCs and CRCPs, ITRPs, large research consortia and other multi-party ventures
  • a track record of achievement in the development of strategic business plans for new research initiatives.

3.         Mallett Street Campus. Home of the Sydney Nursing School.

4.         Sydney Conservatorium of Music Campus. In Macquarie Street, central Sydney.

5.         Rozelle Campus. Home to Sydney College of the Arts.

6.         Surry Hills Campus. Home to the Faculty of Dentistry.

7.         Camden Campus. Contains facilities connected to the Faculty of Veterinary Science and the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment.

8.         Burren Street Campus. Facilties are currently under development.

9.         Sydney Medical School campuses. These include the School of Rural Health (in Dubbo and Orange), the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Concord Hospital, Westmead Hospital, the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Nepean Hospital, Northern Clinical School, Sydney Adventist Hospital, Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health, and Northern Rivers University Department of Rural Health.
