Dynamic and vibrant, Durham University Business School is one of Durham University's four Faculties and is comprised of three research-intensive departments: Accounting, Economics and Finance, and Management and Marketing. Known for its global reputation, its impact on policy and practice and its strong focus on ethics, responsibility and sustainability, the School aims to be a leading European business school with a strong global presence by 2027, The School currently has 180 academic and teaching staff, with plans and resource commitments to grow to 230 by 2027. In addition, 11 funded research centres blend leading theoretical perspectives with a strong emphasis on impact and engagement with practice, noted in www.durham.ac.uk/business. The school's student population is around 4000, across undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes.

The Department of Economics and Finance at Durham University Business School invites applications for the position of the Department Head at the rank of Professor, to join us in or around August 2021. Applications are sought from candidates from within both domains of Economics and Finance.

In addition to being a key leader in the School's Executive Team who contributes to the development and implementation of the School's Strategy, the Head of Department is responsible for managing department operations and providing effective leadership for faculty, staff and students. A further vital responsibility of the Head of Department is to lead and oversee faculty recruitment, retention, and advancement, to promote excellence in scholarship and the advancement of early career colleagues. The Head of Department also leads on the strategic development of curricula across the Department's programmes in order to foster an innovative, transformative and enabling education for students. With these goals in mind, we seek to appoint a Head of Department who is a leading scholar in their field and has a keen understanding across the domains of research and teaching, significant leadership experience, including fiscal and resource management skills. The position as Professor is a continuing post, with appointment as Head of Department initially for 3 years, which can be extended.

The Department is home to over 80 academics whose research is internationally renowned for intellectual rigour and for the benefits it brings to society. In line with the overall strategy, there are ambitious growth plans over the next three years aimed at securing a critical mass of colleagues within the department. You will be working with colleagues in our research centres of excellence, specialised in areas such as Banking, Institutions and Development; Ethical Finance Accountability and Governance; Economics Analysis and Mechanisms; Quantitative Research in Finance and Economics; Environment and Energy Economics and Experimental Methods in Business Research, among others. We work closely with business partners around the world, sharing insights, supporting innovation, and educating tomorrow's leaders.
