Professor of Creative and Interactive Computing - Permanent - Full Time

Build your professorial career in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University

We are seeking to appoint a Professor in the area of Creative and Interactive Computing to join the School of Computing.    

The successful candidate will bring a track record of teaching and research across disciplines and will hold a leadership role within the School Leadership Team. A research profile characterised by a design informed approach, combined with a genuine engagement with, and concern for creative practice, is central.

With over 70 academics, 1400 students, and some of the most impressive computing lab facilities in a UK university, the School of Computing is highly regarded and one of the UK's largest computing departments at the heart of Scotland’s inspiring capital.

The Role

We are looking for a Professor who is passionate about creative and interactive computing and applications of emerging technologies in the field, and who will:

  • Lead and mentor academic and post-doctoral research staff in the Creative and Social Informatics (CSI) subject group, as Head of Subject.
  • Provide strategic direction and mentoring for two research groups: The Centre for Social Informatics and The Interaction Design (ID) group
  • Chair panels of supervisory teams for doctoral students and supervise students to successful completion as their Director of Studies.
  • Enhance and increase research quality, research income and impact through both personal research and providing research leadership and support for Early Career Academics.

As an established academic joining us as a Professor you will benefit from:

  • A research allowance of 30% of your time to build research in the school and increase research income. 
  • Joining supervisory teams for our doctoral students.
  • Involvement in our live externally funded projects, including the Creative Informatics project
  • Access to our staff development budget for travel to conferences and to establish collaborations.
  • Support from our Research, Innovation and Enterprise office (RIE). You may also be supported to gain Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • A doctoral level qualification in a relevant discipline. 
  • A track record of attracting external research funding across disciplines of Interaction Design, User Experience and Human-Centred Design.
  • Evidence of a professional academic and research profile alongside a commitment to sustained continuous professional/academic development.
  • Evidence of strategic decision making and policy delivery in teaching &/or research.
  • Sufficient breadth and depth of experience, in a relevant teaching discipline, to develop high quality teaching/learning and research programmes.
  • A level of achievement appropriate to the post being applied for, including international/ national standing, a developing research track record of high quality outputs, external income generation, and academic leadership.
