King’s College London is one of the world’s top universities and at a crucial time for science and mental health the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), is looking to recruit a Senior Media Officer (SMO).

King’s and IoPPN are undertaking a broad range of research into the pandemic, which is hitting the headlines, influencing policy and changing practice.  This is an opportunity to work with cutting edge research at the forefront of the conversation.

The SMO will be the primary contact for print, broadcast and online media for IoPPN and is responsible for publicising its large and high-profile portfolio of mental health and neuroscience research.

The role will create and curate content on multiple digital, social and media channels for both internal and external audiences, as well working with communications channels throughout King’s, partner NHS Foundation Trusts and King’s Health Partners.

The post holder will inspire and engage the IoPPN’s stakeholders and build King’s reputation for academic excellence through showcasing key achievements aligned to the IoPPN’s Strategy and King’s Strategic Vision 2029 and to promote and maintain the IoPPN’s profile as a world class research and education institute in psychiatry, psychology and neuroscience.

The role reports to the IoPPN Head of Communications and works closely with the IoPPN Press & Communications team, King’s Senior Communications Business Partner for Health and King’s Corporate Communications, to raise awareness and the profile of IoPPN’s activities and maximising engagement. The role is based in a busy press and communications office but working from home for the time being.

The post holder will be highly motivated and able to juggle a number of competing priorities under pressure to tight deadlines. This post requires resilience, initiative and a flair for building relationships, influencing others, organisation, diplomacy and outstanding communication.
