Chair (W3) of Forest Botany

to be filled at the earliest possible date.

The chair will represent forestry and forest ecological aspects in the field of Botany in research, teaching and transfer of knowledge to the public. The research of the Chair of Forest Botany focuses on the ecophysiology and anatomy of trees and shrubs. Key challenges of global change should be integrated into the chair’s research profile, for example with modern research approaches about the adaptability to stressors as severe droughts, the restoration and enhancement of the resilience of trees and shrubs, trees in urban space or renewable resources. The chair includes the position of director of the Tharandt Botanical Garden and Arboretum. This “Saxon State Arboretum” links teaching and research tasks with environmental education. Your teaching obligations comprise the full scope of Forest Botany in the bachelor and master programs “Forest Sciences”, the master program “Wood Science and Technology”, the international master program “Tropical Forestry” and study programs of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences. We expect your active participation in academic self-administration.

We are seeking an internationally renowned candidate with a proven record of first-class publications in the field of Forest Botany and profound knowledge and experience in botany and ecophysiology of woody plants. You are visible in the international research community and possess experience in the acquisition of third-party funding. Skills for conducting lectures in the English language are a prerequisite. Your responsibilities also include the experience and ability to conduct interdisciplinary research and the willingness for active cooperation with researchers from other disciplines within the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and TU Dresden. We expect your participation in the CIPSEM (Centre for International Postgraduate Studies of Environmental Management) and the collaboration with the Dresden-based Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and Resources (UNU-FLORES) of the United Nations University. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
