Job Description Summary

The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases. 

The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the “go-to” organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Continuation of all GTP positions is contingent upon funding.

Job Description

As the Core Program Manager, in conjunction with the Senior Director, Translational Research and the Associate Director / Director, Morphology Core you will be responsible for developing and implementing laboratory operational efficiencies including standardizing sample submission, standardizing and optimizing protocols and quality controls, developing and maintaining tracker tools to ensure efficiency of the Core and Research Operations.

In collaboration with other Research staff and Core staff members and the Associate Director you will be responsible for training staff, providing support during necropsies and help delivering the highest quality pathology services. 

Under the guidance of the Senior Director, Translational Research, you will manage the projects in the research group portfolio, set up meetings with other cores as needed to harmonize and organize workload, prepare agendas, meeting minutes, and action items. You will interface with researchers and Cores within the Gene Therapy Program to help standardize and optimize workload directly related to in vivo studies. 

Qualifications:

  • This position requires an M.S. and 3-5 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Project and/or Study Management experience required.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology methods, in vivo studies, necropsy required.
  • Independent thinker, meticulous, detail-oriented, and analytical.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, collaborate, and liaise with cross-functional constituents within GTP.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills required.
