SENIOR WRITER ON COMPUTINGMIT Technology Review (MITTR), to be responsible for MITTR’s coverage of computing, including computer hardware and software platforms, chip architecture and fabrication, computing devices and interfaces, quantum computing, and experimental computing substrates and architectures. Will produce a steady flow of stories that cover an assigned beat, including timely news coverage and original reporting; produce at least six in-depth features per year for either the print magazine or weekly online “cover story” slot; collaborate with colleagues in other TR departments (e.g., events) and oversee other content relevant to their coverage area; lead or play a major role in conceiving, planning, and assigning themed print issues when on a topic within beat; assign and edit freelance stories in topic area; and represent MITTR at conferences, in the press, and to special interest audiences/communities.

Job Requirements

 

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in journalism or relevant field; at least five years’ journalism experience; track record of producing well-written, incisive stories about technology; high level of numeracy; and experience in technology or science journalism.  Must be able to distill information from a range of sources; identify important and relevant stories; and turn those ideas into compelling, clear, insightful, and creative journalism.  Seek someone who enjoys working in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines and would like to become proficient in new journalistic tools and storytelling forms.  

PREFERRED:  advanced degree; experience in audio and visual journalism and working with online publishing platforms; social media presence; facility with data analysis and presentation; public speaking and conference moderation experience.   Job #19082-10
