Position Focus:

The MOMS Partnership Policy Project Specialist will be responsible for supporting and coordinating projects within the policy portfolio at Elevate. Elevate is a policy lab based out of the Yale School of Medicine, which aims to elevate mental health as a strategy to disrupt poverty. Elevate’s work is dedicated to tapping the power of public policy, including policies proposed or enacted by Congress, state legislatures, and municipal government, and promulgated by federal, state and local government agencies, to advance family mental health as a public sector strategy for interrupting intergenerational poverty. In addition to national efforts to scale the MOMS Partnership®, Elevate is currently focused on two policy initaitives: bundled maternity care and triple bottom line justice. The Policy Project Specialist will report to the Senior Specialist for Policy Innovation and Impact, in consultation with the Director of Policy.

Essential Duties

1. Manages special projects ranging from academic to financial from inception to completion, which requires quantitative analysis, independent research, and the proposal of resolutions or conclusions. Creates and envisions programmatic initiatives and communication strategies. 2. Designs and develops communications strategies for special projects. Develops and exercises a keen understanding of the multiple audiences and contributing University offices involved in a given project to ensure that individual communications are rolled out within a structure planned in advance and with appropriate communication among key stakeholders. 3. Envisions, creates and authors a wide variety of sensitive and high-level written materials. Serves as coordinator and executor for a range of internal and external committees. May participate in decisions regarding committee work. Advises panelists on precedents and prior actions. 4. Serves as Secretary for committee(s), manages informal and formal resolution processes and voluminous correspondence. 5. May supervise the work of project coordinator and administrative staff. 6. Serves as liaison to other departments on all communications. 7. Contributes to design, organization, and maintenance of department website. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and four years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Ability to support the development of innovative policy collaborations in partnership with philanthropic, government, nonprofit, community and private sector partners.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Well-developed interpersonal, writing and public speaking skills with the ability to develop presentations, research briefs, policy memos, social media posts and other written materials.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and social media platforms.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Ability to conduct multi-disciplinary research (e.g. medical, public health, law, environment) and translate findings for a range of audiences (e.g. academic, government, private sector and community).

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Advanced degree in Public Policy or Public Health with a Concentration in Health Policy or 5 years working in a related field.
