$71,596 - $79,016 FTE

Under general direction the Research Assistant will undertake a wide range of research related administrative and organisational tasks to support Flinders Rural and Remote Health research academic staff, and specifically the program of work associated with the evaluation of the cultural awareness and safety training program.

The work will include conducting a literature review on the evidence of effectiveness of cultural awareness and safety training, collate and summarise documents related to the aims and methods of cultural awareness and safety training in the Northern Territory, and support the data collection associated with a prospective evaluation of cultural awareness and safety training.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Research Assistant is accountable for:

  • Assisting the research team in the development and implementation of the research plans for evaluation of cultural awareness and safety training.
  • Contributing to the preparation of ethics proposals in collaboration with research staff.
  • Conducting a literature review of the evidence of effectiveness of cultural awareness and safety training, and preparing a report.
  • Collating and summarising key documents related to guidelines and policies for cultural safety training, and supporting research staff in identifying the core aspects of cultural awareness and safety training.
  • Liaising and consulting with a range of individuals, community organisations and key stakeholders including other Remote Health staff and community members.
  • Liaising with the university research office and research centres.
  • Coordinating data collection associated with a prospective evaluation of cultural awareness and safety training, at baseline, follow-up and 2-4 months later.
  • Managing and updating a research database related to program evaluation.
  • Assisting the preparation of any publications related to cultural awareness and safety training.
  • Preparation and submission of progress reports as required.
  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Completion of a degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training.
  • Identified as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person.
  • Well-developed administrative and organisational skills including the ability to manage conflicting priorities, make independent and informed judgements on a range of project related matters and management of time in order to meet deadlines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to contribute to ethics proposals and publications.
  • Basic descriptive data analysis skills.
  • Computer literacy including demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies and applications.
  • A willingness to provide assistance to academic staff and students to undertake research projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively with team members, including those at other remote sites, to share information and ideas and to collaborate in achieving outcomes.
  • Capacity to build and maintain a wide range of internal and external stakeholder relationships through networking, community forums/functions and general relationship building.
