Description
The University of Chicago’s Division of Biological Sciences and Pritzker School of Medicine, one of the country’s preeminent medical schools, seeks nominations and applications for an outstanding academic, visionary surgeon leader to serve as the Inaugural Chair and Professor, Department of Neurosurgery. The successful applicant will join the University of Chicago faculty at an exciting time in the School of Medicine’s long history. S/he will be expected to take full advantage of the extraordinary resources of one of the world’s most remarkable academic medical centers with a strong commitment to clinical, research and educational endeavors. Reporting to the Dean of the Division of Biological Sciences and the Pritzker School of Medicine, the Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery will have the overall responsibility for strategy, clinical and educational program development, and operations within neurosurgery. S/he will oversee the growth and development of the department’s excellence and outstanding clinical programs and will support ground-breaking basic, clinical, and translational research.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must:
- have a medical doctorate or equivalent,
- hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois,
- hold Board certification by the American Board of Neurological Surgery or comparable credentials, and
- qualify for appointment at senior faculty rank.
