Keele University

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation)

Keele University has an international reach, a reputation for world-class research, high quality research-led education and an outstanding student experience, reflected in a Gold award in the TEF. We aim to build on the impact of our broad academic and research programmes, having invested heavily over the past 10 years in the campus and infrastructure. Our mission is to undertake world leading research that transforms understanding and brings benefits to society, communities and individuals. We now seek to appoint a new Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation).
The new PVC (Research and Innovation) will provide strategic leadership across all areas of activity relating to research and innovation across the University and with external partners and bodies. The appointee will be tasked with improving research impact and outcomes, raising research ambitions, and driving up research performance across the three faculties. They will lead the development of the Research and Innovation Strategic Plan, and drive its implementation. The new PVC (Research and Innovation) will lead on preparations for the University’s REF and KEF submissions, and will represent Keele in relevant local, regional, national and international fora.

The appointee will report to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and will be a member of the University Executive Committee. They will chair the University’s Research Committee.

The ideal candidate will have a strong personal research profile, with an accomplished track record of securing research grants and other sources of research funding. They will demonstrate proven research leadership skills and the credibility to build research capacity. They must be able to foster a strong research culture and inter-disciplinary collaborations across the University. Knowledge of UK research policy will be critical, as will a track record of cultivating relevant external relationships. The successful candidate will be an effective and collegiate member of the Executive, capable of contributing to cross-institutional strategy. This is an exceptional opportunity for an academic leader to make a real and lasting contribution to research at Keele, and to lead a critical element of the University’s future vision. Candidates must be of professorial standing.

Keele University values diversity, and is committed to ensuring equality of opportunity, and to proper and fair representation across its senior decision making groups. In support of these commitments, the University particularly welcomes expressions of interest and applications from women and from individuals of black and ethnic minority backgrounds, for this post.
