The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Research Assistant to support field-based data gathering and processing in connection with an ongoing project with Industry and conducted as part of the ongoing SFI funded LERO Centre programme. The candidate will join the existing Geospatial Science & Technology research team at the National Centre for Geocomputation (NCG). A suitably qualified candidate with a primary degree is required to support the data gathering and data processing activities using various Optical, Navigation and LiDAR sensors. Some of this work will involve carrying out data acquisition tasks using Optical and LiDAR sensors out in the field including, agriculture, forestry, transportation network and urban environments. Data preparation will involve loading data onto University computing platforms and carrying out various data processing tasks including: LiDAR post-processing, ortho-rectification of imagery, re-formatting, labelling training data-sets as well as data-quality checking. The candidate will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Research Project Manager, and support the research team based at the NCG.
Research Assistant (Level 1) 2020 Salary Scale: €23,061 (1 point with incremental progression).
Appointment will be made in accordance with the Department of Finance pay guidelines.
*New entrants to the public sector will be appointed on the first point of the above pay scale with annual incremental progression.
