Job Description Summary

This posting is for a skilled phlebotomist who is comfortable working in a human immunology and virology laboratory as well as in a clinic or home visit setting. The candidate will support work associated with multiple clinical research projects performing phlebotomy as well as basic Clinical Research Coordinator duties.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing phlebotomy home visits using the employee’s vehicle, delivering samples to the lab for processing in a timely manner, scheduling phlebotomy in home or in clinic visits, screening patient data and data entry.  The successful candidate will demonstrate vigilance in patient safety, protocol compliance, and have solid computer skills.

Job Description

The phlebotomist/CRC-A will be responsible for performing in clinic and home phlebotomy visits for several ongoing clinical trials. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing phlebotomy visits using the employee’s own vehicle to drive to participant’s home when needed during the day, delivering samples to the lab for processing in a timely manner, clinical trial coordination including patient scheduling, detailed data entry, and recording of clinical samples. Must have a valid drivers license and own vehicle. This position may require assistance with IRB submissions and inquiries.

DUTIES:

  • Obtain blood specimens from patients by performing venipuncture. Deliver clinical specimen as required by the study protocol. Adhere to Penn Medicine’s policies and procedures and conforms to all safety practices.
  • Data entry and use of Redcap databases
  • Contact study participants to schedule phlebotomy visits including follow-up and pre-visit reminders.
  • Serve as a liaison between research study participants, study team and Project Director
  • Properly label samples and register/record in LabVantage
  • Screen patient data for study recruitment and consent patients

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Phlebotomy certification with 1-2 yrs experience is required with 3-5 years of experience in phlebotomy with pediatric experience preferred.
  • This position requires excellent oral and written communication, strong working knowledge of basic computer skills and solid problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interact with clinicians, researchers, patients, and families is required. Ability to screen and extract relevant information from medical records, data entry and experience with Redcap is preferred.
  • Familiarity with health systems research is desired but not required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and vehicle.

Driving will not exceed 25% of the time, and the department will provide a car allowance to be established at time of offer.
