Job Description Summary

The Assistant Director of Learning Enrichment will play a vital role in aiding students in exploring interest in Library enrichment opportunities. This staff member will be a hands-on leader of experiential learning and learning enrichment opportunities across the Libraries and schools for the Penn Community. They will design, implement and assess learning activities that occur outside of the classroom.

Job Description

The Assistant Director of Learning Enrichment reports to the Director of Educational Technology and Learning Management and is a key leader in the Engagement Division and institution.

In partnership with faculty and staff members from across campus, the Assistant Director will develop and coordinate events, programs and projects designed to bring the students into conversation and collaboration with the Libraries, local community, and broader world. Students will be able to learn more about themselves by participating in enrichment activities across Educational Technologies and Learning Management such as coding, critical making, digital production, and digital skills training. They will be passionate about informal and experiential learning while having a outcome-focused approach to guide their work. They will help design a program that prepares students to be adaptable and flexible for lifelong learning by gaining a better understanding of the connections between their experiences, enabling them to strengthen student capacity to integrate and effectively communicate what they know and how they know it. In addition, the person in this role will lead a team of professional staff of three full-time employees to work collaboratively to carry out initiatives. The Assistant Director will create high-impact, high quality programs that are driven by students and foster evidence of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility in all aspects of their work. They will have a thorough understanding of current and emerging educational technologies, including software, hardware, and delivery systems for a digitally savvy audience. The Assistant Director will lead a team that designs, creates, and implements library-based enrichment activities that embrace multidisciplinary learning to support social and academic success and engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years experience applied educator in Higher Education experience is required; informal learning experience, especially in Libraries, preferred over formal or classroom teaching
  • Demonstrated passion and experience in cultivating connections, program planning and execution, group facilitation and engagement, of students in informal or library based learning
  • Proven record of developing cohesive teams, managing performance and productivity, strategic planning, and contributing to organizational leadership
  • Exceptional organizational and leadership abilities and effective communication skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion within the workplace and in all interactions with all constituents and stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to deliver effective presentations to diverse audiences, and build internal and external relationships
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree in a related field preferred

In addition to the education experience above, the following skills and experience apply:

  • Experience working with and instructing students in an urban University setting
  • Strong program coordination and organization skills, including flexibility, professionalism, and creativity
  • Strong writing, organizational and interpersonal skills, including group facilitation skills
  • Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative, cross-functional team environment, where flexibility, creativity, and resourcefulness are required for success;
