St John’s College is looking to appoint a Senior Tutor to be the College’s senior academic officer, with overall responsibility for academic strategy and policy and for all aspects of the recruitment, admission, education and welfare of students, both undergraduate and postgraduate. The Senior Tutor oversees and leads a large Education team (including the Admissions Tutor, Tutor for Postgraduates, Tutors, Directors of Studies and senior administrative staff, among others). This is an exciting opportunity to shape, develop and lead the educational environment of the College.
The ideal candidate will bring a collegiate outlook and empathy with the values of the Fellowship, along with a commitment to excellence in teaching, learning and research. A strong academic record and the ability to think strategically are key requirements. The postholder will possess exceptional communication, pastoral sensitivity and interpersonal skills, combined with strong leadership and management qualities.
The post will be offered on a fixed term basis of up to ten years, with an initial 3 year term required by College Statutes, after which there is the opportunity of reappointment for a further term of up to 7 years.
The appointment is expected to be full-time, but a provision of time for research or other academic activities can be negotiated. The level and structure of remuneration for the role will be discussed with the successful applicant but is envisaged as being at a point on the University’s professorial scale.
