Offsite Deputy Laboratory Manager at Backweston Satellite Laboratory, National Virus Reference Laboratory,

Applications are invited for the temporary (Specified purpose) role of Deputy Laboratory Manager in the NVRL SARS-CoV-2 satellite laboratory in Backweston(NSLB). Following interviews, a panel will be formed from which future opportunities may be offered. This is a temporary post.
The National Virus Reference Laboratory (NVRL) plays an important role in the Irish Health Services as the principal diagnostic and reference service for clinicians investigating virus infections. The NVRL currently offers a repertoire of over 130 tests for the diagnosis of at least 45 different pathogens, and performs in excess of 900,000 tests annually. Since the onset of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, the NVRL has played a pivotal role in the national testing response.
In order to increase laboratory testing capacity for SARS-CoV-2, the NVRL will operate a stand-alone SARS-CoV-2 testing laboratory at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), Backweston Laboratory Complex, Youngs Cross, Ballymadeer, Celbridge, Co. Kildare. In order to facilitate delivery of the required service, staff are expected to operate on a shift pattern over a 7-day period.
The Deputy Laboratory Manager will be responsible for assisting the Laboratory Manager in the management of service delivery for the molecular investigation of SARS-CoV-2 that satisfies the HSE users' requirements in terms of responsiveness, quality and cost. The laboratory will operate on a shift pattern and as such the Deputy Laboratory Manager will take the lead in managing the laboratory's operations during a working shift. The post holder will be responsible for the supervision of scheduled staff in the performance of their duties and ensures compliance with the NVRL Quality Management System and Safety Policy. The Deputy Laboratory Manager will act on behalf of the Laboratory Manager in their absence.

Salary: €65,423 -89,844 per annum
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
