Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Carpenter shop Supervisor, perform preventive maintenance required to insure proper operation of all roofing systems. Make any necessary minor repairs to facility and residential roofs. Assist in coordination and planning of major roof replacement and repairs.

Job Duties

In coordination and cooperation with other trades and shops, perform various roofing duties that include but are not limited to the following:

• Properly expedites specified repair work assigned by the supervisor
• Inspect and maintain all facility roofs
• Work closely with all shop personal and other Facilities Management sections
• Conducts oneself in a manner that will at all times maintain courteous, cooperative and professional relationships among all members of the Caltech community
• Review specification and plans for major replacement and repairs
• Perform all other assigned duties

Basic Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent
• A minimum of five years journeyman level experience working in all phases roofing installation and repair (industrial, commercial, and residential)
• Knowledge of tile, torch down, build-up, hot and cold applied, and protective coatings
• Must maintain a valid California driver’s license throughout the course of employment
• Requires the ability to work at heights and in confined spaces and must be able to lift 50-80 lbs. on a daily basis
