Job Description

The successful candidate will work with Huang Dejian on a TAP grant in R and D of functional foods for body weight management under a project (ID: TIPCALL2020-05-09), “Novel functional ingredient from vegetable extract with weight management effect”.

The main responsibilities of the position include:-

  1. Extraction of bioactive constituents from vegetable and evaluate its activity for weight management
  2. Structural characterizations of the bioactive constituents by HPLC and LC-MS(n)
  3. Establish a data and sample base of vegetables on their bioactive contents and HPLC and LC-MS profiles
  4. Develop new methods to purify bioactive constituents from vegetable that can be scaled up to pilot scale (100 kg of vegetables)
  5. Formulation of functional foods and/or dietary supplements for animal model studies
  6. Develop valorization plan for zero waste processing of vegetable of choices to reclaim proteins/fiber/starch/bioactive constituents
  7. Other duties arising as the project develops


The candidate is required to possess a PhD majoring in Food Science and Technology. In addition, he/she must have:

  1. Hands-on experience on natural product extraction skills
  2. Hands-on experience in flash chromatography, HPLC, LC-MS, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. High resolution MS.
  3. High throughput assay for measurement of enzyme inhibition activity
  4. Food product/dietary supplement design and formulation skills
  5. Minimally a one year working experience
