Applications are invited for the position of Associate Director (Applications and Process Management) (Ref.: 503009) in the Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University. 

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the appointee will:

  • Manage the life-cycle of the application systems of the University from design, development, deployment, operation to maintenance/upgrade of such systems;
  • Maintain effective and professional teams of IT staff, vendors, consultants and contractors in service delivery;
  • Provide quality service to key stake-holders and users with defined service policies, processes and service-level agreements in meeting their IT and business process requirements; and
  • Deliver strong returns to IT investment with robust financial management, budgeting and procurement practice. 

Qualified candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience, and personal attributes:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration or related fields;
  • 15+ years of management and leadership experience in sizable organizations comparable with HKU;
  • Experience in higher education a plus;
  • Familiarity with institutional IT governance frameworks such as Finance Committee and IT Steering Committee (for IT CAPEX approval and IT strategies/policies formulation);
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities;
  • A strategic and business mindset;
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills; and
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities. 

Knowledge, skills and successful track record in the following areas are also essential to the post: 

  • IT strategy planning and implementation;
  • IT service management best practice model, e.g. ITIL;
  • IT policy formulation and implementation;
  • Leading sizable change management programmes and digital transformation initiatives;
  • Project management practice and PMO operations/governance;
  • Business process management and re-engineering;
  • IT investment cost and benefit analysis with TCO and ROI financial models;
  • Vendor management and established network with major local suppliers/contractors;
  • Non-industry specific application systems including enterprise resources planning (ERP), financial management, human capital management, customer relationship management and procurement management; and
  • Higher education specific application systems including e-learning, student life-cycle management and research/grant management.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
