Job Description Summary

Under limited supervision, purify recombinant proteins, manage the lab, and perform other experiments investigating mechanisms of mitotic chromosome segregation.

Job Description

Duties:

Research Specialist B:

  • Express and purify recombinant proteins from bacterial and insect cultures using GE AKTA purification system.
  • Prepare novel DNA constructs with modified genes (truncated, tagged, with site mutations, etc.) using advanced molecular biology techniques.
  • Participate in other on-going experiments including microscopy and computer image analyses.
  • Order and maintain supplies, equipment and other lab stocks.
  • Manage waste disposal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Research Specialist C:

  • Express and purify recombinant proteins from bacterial and insect cultures using GE AKTA purification system.
  • Prepare novel DNA constructs with modified genes (truncated, tagged, with site mutations, etc.) using advanced molecular biology techniques.
  • Participate in other on-going experiments including microscopy and computer image analyses.
  • Design and write protocols.
  • Analyze data and write lab reports.
  • Present data at conferences and meetings.
  • Prepare scientific reports and manuscript submissions.
  • Order and maintain supplies, equipment and other lab stocks.
  • Manage waste disposal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This position is contingent on grant funding.

Qualifications:

Research Specialist B:

Bachelor’s Degree and 1-3 years previous laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience with molecular biology methods and advanced protein biochemistry required. Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office, required. Must have strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively with other lab members.

Research Specialist C:  

Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years previous laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master’s Degree preferred. Extensive experience with molecular biology methods and advanced protein biochemistry required. Expertise in designing and purifying recombinant proteins including GE AKTA chromatography required. Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office, required. Must have strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively with other lab members.
