RESEARCH SCIENTISTMedia Lab-City Science, to lead and develop numerous mobility projects. City Science researchers develop evidence-based, data-driven urban design strategies as an alternative to the conventional practice of urban planning. Will act as a subject matter expert on the intersection of shared mobility, autonomous solutions, lightweight mobility, and human-centric modes.  Responsibilities include conducting research, coordinating data gathering, analyzing data, and deploying technologies in the areas of energy, mobility, innovation, housing, and urban planning; researching and developing urban design strategies and algorithms; developing research protocols to deploy, test, validate, and refine strategies for community engagement and urban intervention using CityScope, a concept for shared, interactive computation for urban planning; leading the design and development of new urban mobility systems with a focus on electric/shared/autonomous vehicles; and understanding, modeling, and leading research on mobility patterns in cities and proposing global mobility solutions.  Will also coordinate the work of other MIT researchers; coordinate with researchers to install emerging simulation tools; build collaborative research relationships; prepare monthly project updates and coordinate team meetings; support the principal investigator (PI) with academic coursework, teaching, and staffing; coordinate urban mobility research with industrial sponsors; assist PI with developing and undertaking workshops; publishing research results; and making presentations. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED Ph.D. in architecture, urban planning, new mobility systems, data science, or similar field; three-plus years’ academic research and teaching experience; experience conducting research and collecting and analyzing complex data; 3D modeling, animation, and data visualization skills; and experience with high performance building delivery of urban planning.  

PREFERRED:  interest in City Science research initiatives related to urban design, data analysis, mobility, and architecture. Job #18867
