EXECUTIVE DIRECTORKoch Institute (KI) for Integrative Cancer Research, to be responsible for developing, implementing, and executing KI’s overall outreach strategy, including interactions with existing/potential industry partners, academic and clinical partners, KI faculty, and other MIT academic and administrative units.  Will also have broad oversight of general communications and public relations; manage members of KI’s communications, education and outreach, and programs staff; and collaborate on philanthropic fund-raising.  Responsibilities include setting overall objectives for and managing industry collaborations; cultivating engagement opportunities with faculty, organizing meetings and company visits, liaising with MIT offices on executing contracts/MTAs/NDAs and intellectual property management, and stewarding relationships; setting overall objectives for and managing clinical outreach/collaborations/partnerships; acting as a KI spokesperson; overseeing communications efforts, i.e., website, newsletters, social media, brochures, etc.; overseeing relationships with MIT News Office, other academic units, and the media; working with KI’s Executive Committee and senior administrative leadership on strategic and institution-wide initiatives; helping set overall objectives for and overseeing educational/public outreach; and working with finance team on budgetary objectives. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  at least seven years’ professional (post-training) experience in academia, industry, and/or nonprofit sectors; bachelor's degree in related field; knowledge of academic research principles, research integrity, and intellectual property policy; public relations or communications experience; proven leadership skill building and managing high performance teams and collaborations; and strong strategic planning, implementation, and negotiation skills. Must be able to grasp and synthesize complex issues and identify solutions; navigate organizational change; communicate to technical and non-technical audiences; and collaborate with a diverse population, including faculty, administrators, staff, researchers, students, donors, industry colleagues, journalists, and general public.  

PREFERRED:  advanced degree(s), ideally in science and/or engineering. Job #18856
