Job Description Summary

Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) is looking for an enthusiastic, talented, and self-motivated IT professional to join our Data Team. We have a great work environment and expect you to bring not only your amazing skills but your positive attitude to the table. Job Description

Responsibilities include: 
•    Design, develop, maintain, and document programs to populate SAS datasets from a variety of data sources, and manage/query those databases 
•    Learn, understand, and support a set of diverse financial, healthcare, and general business databases
•    Devise ways to improve workflows to support an ever-increasing number of databases and data update frequency
•    Work with the WRDS research and web teams to develop analytics and extract files for statistical analysis
•    Determine functional requirements for client business processes and may organize, plan, and manage projects
•    Perform technical and functional analysis of information, processing, and management systems
•    Ensure adherence to departmental technical, quality assurance, and security standards
•    Provide first/second-tier data and technical support to external WRDS users

Senior Application Developer’s responsibilities will also include:
•    Develop or modify procedures to solve complex problems, taking into consideration computer equipment capacity and limitations
•    Review the work of colleagues and provide feedback on efficiency, security, and other best practices
•    Oversee project goals, timelines, and create specifications to assure that projects are completed on time and within budget
•    Coordinate multiple projects while meeting deadlines

Junior Qualifications (C Position):

BA/BS in MIS, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, or another closely related discipline with 2 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Excellent problem-solving skills.  Must have the ability to work independently or as a member of a team and meet deadlines. SAS programming (or willingness to learn), database design, and experience working in a UNIX environment are required. A preferred candidate will also have several of the following skills/experience: Python, Postgres, MS SQL Server, knowledge of big data issues, finance and/or financial databases, research methods, and web development.

Senior Qualifications (D Position):

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Excellent problem-solving skills. Must have the ability to work independently or as a member of a team and meet deadlines. SAS programming (or willingness to learn), advanced database design, and experience working in a UNIX environment are required. A candidate for the senior level must have all of the above-required skills/experiences, in addition to intermediate/advanced experience with an RDBMS, experience with a scripting language such as Python, and version control (Git is a plus).  Must be able to manage multiple priorities and evaluate the work of team members. A preferred candidate will also have several of the following skills: Python, Postgres, MS SQL Server, R, Matlab, knowledge of big data issues, finance and/or financial databases, research methods, experience with JSON, and web development.
