Strategic Reporting and Insights Analyst
The Strategy and Analytics group in Stanford University School of Medicine is looking for a talented analyst adept in the areas of data analysis, business analysis, and organizational insights. Reporting to the Senior Director of Strategic Analytics and Reporting, the position will be responsible for interpreting, monitoring, analyzing, and presenting information related to research, education, and clinical care missions of Stanford Medicine. Collaboration with other administrative groups like faculty affairs, human resources, fiscal affairs, educational programs, research management, and information resources will be crucial for the success of this position. He/She will also perform project and analytical work that will ensure the uniformity, accuracy, and semantic consistency of enterprise data through the application of effective data management. - Propose, lead, and/or collaborate on analytic projects that are of strategic importance to the Dean’s Office, such as strategy development, performance reporting, and analysis. These may involve analyzing problems and generating hypotheses, developing key performance metrics, in-depth quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and preparing reports and recommendations to support decision-making and fact-based strategy development.
- Partner with functional leaders and subject matter experts to lead, communicate, and contribute to program planning and strategy activities. This may involve developing planning framework, tools and methodologies, overseeing data collection activities, conducting analyses, and producing reports in sharing data-driven insights with all stakeholders.
- Serve as the “single point of contact” for external agencies and organizations requesting both one-off and routine data (e.g., surveys) about the School of Medicine; act as the primary coordinator for high-quality and consistent data presentations across various business areas and document steps taken to ensure data quality.
- Manage data inquiries and reporting activities for the leaders of Stanford Medicine. Proactively identify opportunities to improve data acquisition and promote automation with Data Blending, Integration, Business Intelligence (BI) and Analytic solutions.
- Communicate, convey, and visualize informed conclusions and recommendations across an organization’s leadership structure in a manner to “tell the story” behind the data and influence how organization approaches the challenge.
- Create and manage an accessible archive and inventory of key reference resources for data and information relevant to strategic planning analyses and projects. These may include outside benchmarks or comparative data for supporting or refuting proposed decisions.

- Experience with forecasting, trend analysis, and predictive modeling using available data sets.
- Ability to blend and integrate data sets using Alteryx, Datawatch, Snaplogic, or similar tools.

- Advanced degree such as MBA, MPH, or MS/MA in related fields.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
- Bachelor degree in a relevant technical field and four years’ extensive experience or combination of education and relevant technical field experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
- Proficiency in manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources.
- Extensive experience in and strong passion for empirical research and answering hard questions with data.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to positively convey findings and influence senior leadership & faculty.
- Demonstrated experience querying, processing, analyzing, and reporting on large data sets.
- Ability to use data retrieval and manipulation tools such as SQL, Brio Query, Business Objects, etc., in conjunction with visual data tools to present data clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Familiarity and experience with intermediate statistical methods; advanced proficiency with statistical tools such as SPSS, SAS, R or similar tools.
- Ability to tell stories with data using data visualization software such as Tableau, Excel, SPSS, or similar software in conjunction with strong verbal ability.
- Ability to use visual data tools to present data clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Flexible analytical approach allowing for results at varying levels of precision.
- Familiarity with strategic planning concepts.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently sit, sort, file paperwork or parts, grasp lightly, and use fine manipulation, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh 10 pounds or less.
