Stanford University School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking an Education Programs Manager. Under the direction of the Associate Chair, Director of Finance and Administration, and in collaboration with the Associate Chair, Director of Education, the incumbent develops and manages the day-to-day operations and administration for the department’s Education Programs for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences of Stanford Medicine has a great tradition of fundamental science, translational and clinical research, subspecialty expertise, multidisciplinary education, and influential leadership. The overarching aim of creating a better future is predicated on our shared pursuit of discovery across the basic, translational, clinical, and population sciences and on our collaborative efforts to translate new knowledge in our training of scientists and expert clinicians, in supporting the careers of outstanding faculty and learners, and in addressing the needs of communities, local and global.

The Education Program Manager will be responsibility for the following duties:

  • Serve as administrative partner to Associate Chair of Education and other Sr. Leaders to help shape direction of education initiatives, with a keen eye on operations, organization, and financial management
  • Manage departmental contracts for technical assistance programs in conjunction with clinical and research analysts/managers and work to define/refine the solicitation, submission, and evaluation process for initiatives
  • Independently implement and administer educational activities including, but not limited to:
  • High school summer programs (CNI-X and CNR-X full-tie programs for a total of 220 students, during five weeks in the summer, including two residential weeks)
  • Stanford undergraduate courses (courses taught by 45 faculty members in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences to approximately 1,500 Stanford undergraduate enrollees each year, mainly during autumn, winter, and spring quarters)
  • Professional education programs (annual conference for 200 attendees, with preparation and event generally spanning Mar-Nov for attendess across the U.S. with some international attendees; postgraduate medical programs for specialized training in evidence-based treatments for groups of about 30 clinicals at various times during the year – CBT for psychosis, Pivot Response Treatment, and transcranial magenetic stimulation; one or two faculty scholars who spend one year in our department doing clinical and research work)
  • ​​​​​​​Develop, collect, and analyze marketing related data (e.g. social media analytics) and make recommendations regarding effective methods of marketing events and programs;
  • Review websites of other educational programs to determine placement in the market (e.g. competition and barriers to entry, market advantage, price points);
  • Review budget ledgers of each educational activity and program, tuition revenue sharing reports, etc.

Responsible for creating:

  • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​the annual summary report of each educational activity and providing recommendations for improvements of all components;
  • annual report/inventory of all educational activities, audiences reached, and curriculum delivered to determine if the educational portfolio is aligned with the educational mission and educational brand;
  • annual report/inventory of all financial and in-kind support for all educational activities, including but not limited to federal grants (e.g. R25), commercial-unrestricted grants, and departmental and School of Medicine awards
  • Perform cost/benefit analyses of existing programs and develop new programs to help organize, manage, cost, and eventually expand education functional area for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
  • Develop procedures for onboarding new courses that will meet the requirements of the department, School of Medicine, and University; procedures for identifying underserved students who qualify for scholarships to our pgoram that complies with all relevant policies; procedures for identifying, background checking, and training all appropriate staff with regards to the University policy on Protection of Minors Involve in Stanford Programs and Activities
  • Work with office of general counsel, Department leadership, Dean’s office, and others to evaluate and develop best practices for the management and evaluation of novel education and community programs
  • Organize multiple events and conferences while managing conference and program budgets.
  • Ensure that the programs’ expenses are within budget as the program proceeds and/or manage vendors and services to effectively produce desired outcomes  
  • Oversee and provide direction to staff, volunteers, and/or student workers involved in high school summer programs, professional education programs, and other educational programs as they are developed. May be required to recruit, hire, and develop regular and temporary staff to meet program needs
  • Responsible for interpreting and implementing human resources related policies, procedures, and appropriate practices as it related to working with volunteers, temporary staff, etc. as applicable


  • Experience with program development, project management, student services or related field


Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
