About the positio

We have a vacancy for an Adjunct Professor/Adjunct Associate Professor in Fire Safety Engineering at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The position has a full-time equivalence of 20 % and has a fixed term of up to 5 years with the possibility of employment for further periods.

The Adjunct Professor/Adjunct Associate Professor belongs to the research group Building Technology and the position will operate in a multidisciplinary environment of building and material technology, building physics and construction engineering. The position will also collaborate closely with the Fire Research and Innovation Centre (FRIC), where NTNU is a research partner.

The position reports to the Head of Department.

Duties of the positions

  • Contribution to teaching at BSc, MSc and PhD level
  • Supervision of MSc and PhD candidates
  • Contribution to research activities at the department

Required selection criteria

  • A strong scientific background in fire dynamics and a broad experience from practical applications of CFD fire modelling
  • A good understanding of fire safety in buildings
  • Good communication skills in Norwegian or one of the other Scandinavian languages

Adjunct Professor:

The position of Adjunct Professor within Fire Safety Engineering requires that you meet the criteria in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts section 1-2.  

  • Your academic work must be essentially within fire safety engineering, fire safety science or equivalent subject areas  

In addition to formal qualifications in teaching at university level, you must document 

  • Development in teaching and counselling of students over time 
  • Extensive experience with supervision preferably at the master / PhD level 
  • Participation in the development of educational quality in a work environment

Adjunct Associate Professor:

The position of Adjunct Assistant Professor within Fire Safety Engineering requires that you meet the criteria in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts section 1-4.  

  • Your PhD, or academic work of the same scope and quality, must be within fire safety engineering, fire safety science or equivalent subject areas 
  • You must document extensive experience from work relevant for the position 

For both positions:

You must document relevant basic competence for teaching and supervision at university/higher education-level, ref. Regulations. If this cannot be documented, you are required to complete an approved course in university teaching within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses.

Preferred selection criteria

  • Applicants with teaching experience from higher education will be preferred 
  • Experience from Norwegian or Scandinavian practical fire safety design will be considered as an advantage
  • Good writing and communication skills in English

Salary and conditions

In a position as Adjunct Professor (code 1013) you will normally be remunerated from gross NOK 620 000 to NOK 980 000 per year, corresponding with a 20% position, depending on qualifications and seniority. In a position as Adjunct Associate Professor (code 1011) you will normally be remunerated from gross NOK 550 000 to NOK 770 000 per year, corresponding with a 20% position, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. 

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

It is a prerequisite that you can be present at and accessible to the institution during the periods of teaching activities and after a closer agreement with the Department.

You will be expected to deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and undertake supervision of Masters and Doctoral candidates. Evaluation of these skills will be based on documented experience and relevant teaching qualifications. Applicants with teaching experience at university level are preferred. Quality and breadth of the teaching qualifications will be evaluated.

We also consider experience from research management and participation in research projects. We place great emphasis on your scientific work from the last five years.
