Postdoctoral Fellow in the Field Politics of Energy Transitions
About the position
At the Department of Sociology and Political Science (ISS) there is a vacant temporary position as postdoctoral fellow in the politics of energy transition for a period of two years. The position may be ascribed teaching obligations and extended with up to two years. The research area for the position is energy transitions, and the position is connected to the research group “Energy, environment and sustainable development” (https://www.ntnu.edu/iss/research). The position is tied to a project on green political alliances and energy transitions in comparative capitalisms. The central assumption of the project is that strong and robust green alliances are crucial to speeding up the pace of energy transitions. This is an area where the energy transitions literature has major knowledge gaps, in particular with respect to the role that alliances play in creating the necessary political conditions for transitions.
There is major need for work on how energy alliances, green alliances especially, hinder or promote energy transitions. Research on the role of green alliances in energy transitions is crucial to explore both the nature of energy alliance formation and the conditions under which green alliances stabilize or transform established energy regimes. The main project objective is to fill the research gap by exploring (i) how green energy alliances are formed and maintained within different institutional and national contexts, and (ii) how robust green alliances impact green energy transitions. The position potentially spans several subfields within political science; political economy, comparative politics, and political behavior.
