Position Focus:

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for handling basic lab responsibilities (autoclaving, placing purchasing orders, shipping packages, organizing the lab and database); Assist research and support staff; Assist with management of animals; Record and compile information related to research data; and performs additional duties as assigned.

Essential Duties

  1. Records data and results.
  2. Prepares chemical solutions and media. Orders, stocks and distributes supplies.
  3. Maintains work area and cleanliness of laboratory. Washes and sterilizes glassware and equipment.
  4. May assist in procedures using animals. May compile data on scientific/laboratory procedures.
  5. Performs additional functions incidental to laboratory activities.

Required Education and Experience

Two years of related work experience and a high school level education; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills and attention to detail. Previous ability to perform mouse hamster drug delivery and blood collection (IV, ROB, OG, and sublingual).

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Proven ability to be meticulous with details. Ability to work independently with self-initiative.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Proven ability to multi-task, maintain confidentiality and remain focused in a fast-paced environment.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Must be able to work autonomously within the interdisciplinary team and demonstrate analytical skills. Ability to work in a professional manner as well as maintain an excellent attendance record.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Excellent computer skills, including intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Word and Excel.
