FINANCIAL ASSISTANT 2, Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE), to provide complex and diverse financial support-- under direct supervision of the DMSE senior financial administrator--for the day to day operations of faculty labs. Will perform financial activities for general, fund, and research accounts for faculty and their labs; serve as a resource for faculty, postdocs, and students on financial transactions; provide backup support to financial staff during absences; exercise confidentiality of classified information based on office protocols; conduct regular review of account activity for compliance with MIT and sponsor policy, budget v. actuals, positive balances, and expiring accounts; participate in quarterly projection meetings with faculty and finance staff and assist with executing the projection plan; process account closeouts, including compliance audits; maintain proposal and award data and prepare current and pending reports for proposal submissions; conduct regular reviews of transactions in accordance with the financial review and control process; and perform other administrative, financial, and clerical duties as necessary.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years of financial or accounting experience; excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills; ability to set priorities, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and follow through; attention to detail; strong accounting skills; sound judgment with confidential/sensitive information; and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
PREFERRED: a bachelor’s degree; experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and university accounting and purchasing systems; and proficiency with MIT’s financial software, i.e., SAP and Cognos. Job #19147-5
