SOFTWARE ENGINEER, edX, to join a brand new team in the edX for Business group. edX, launched as a joint software venture between MIT and Harvard, is on a mission to increase access to online education to learners worldwide. Responsibilities include designing, developing, deploying, and supporting scalable software systems; collaborating with the Product Management, UX, and Data Science groups to understand business problems and identify solutions; providing mentorship to team members and assisting with feedback on code reviews; building and maintaining operationally viable solutions throughout the software life cycle; committing to owning code and supporting the customer facing environment; leading team members on independent project initiatives; and promoting teamwork, researching cutting edge technology, and supporting a vibrant innovative work atmosphere.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: at least three years of full-stack coding experience and real-world experience developing and deploying large websites in React or another modern JavaScript framework. Must be able to problem solve; drive projects with loosely defined requirements; communicate with stakeholders; learn from both success and failure; and share knowledge with team members through mentoring, code reviews, pair programming, presentations, etc.
PREFERRED: a B.S. in computer science or related area; experience working with Python and Django, building static websites (e.g., Gatsby and GraphQL), working in an agile development environment, using Optimizely or similar A/B testing tools, and with accessibility best practices and compliant front-end development standards; familiarity with experiment design and evaluation and open source frameworks; working knowledge of SEO; and an interest in enabling and integrating open source contributions.
