COMMUNICATIONS OFFICERCivil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), to develop and implement communication and marketing strategies in order to promote CEE’s educational and research activities, mission, values, and vision across a variety of channels including web, social media, video, print, and audio.  Will engage faculty, alumni, current/prospective students, industry, current/prospective donors, and the media; conceptualize, write, edit, design, and approve content for various communications and outreach projects and highlight research outcomes/accomplishments of faculty, research scientists, postdocs, and students; lead and implement communications projects; manage vendor relationships; maintain a strong understanding of marketing communications industry trends across peer universities and MIT departments; manage and develop digital and print communication products, platforms, and services; ensure consistent messaging across CEE; and promote and represent CEE’s vision and priorities among the campus communications community.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree (master’s desirable) in English, communications, journalism or related field; at least five years’ professional communications experience in higher education or at a research institution or in journalism, public relations, or marketing; excellent written and verbal communication, editorial, and presentation skills; ability to translate complex technical ideas into clear language; experience with print and digital communication, user interface trends, and web design best practices; ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team, build productive relationships with faculty/staff/external audiences, successfully plan and implement communications strategies, and manage and keep projects on time; strong organizational, interpersonal, and diplomacy skills; meticulous attention to detail; experience with social media content creation, monitoring, metrics, and reporting; discretion with confidential information; demonstrated design skills and proficiency using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop; and experience using HTML and CMS. Job #19150-8
