Job Description Summary
The McKay Orthopaedic Research Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Investigator to join our laboratory, and to work in the highly specialized field of orthopaedic research. The successful candidate will be involved in leading and pursuing research projects in the field of tendon biomechanics and bioengineering.
The Research Investigator Sr (SRI) will act in a leadership role, overseeing and designing advanced experiments. He/She will assist the Principal Investigator and play a leading role in developing a research program in the advancement of specific area of study and will play a crucial role both in all aspects of research products including development, implementation, and data analysis. In the development stage, the SRI will assess proposed projects by conducting feasibility studies to provide valuable input regarding viability, efficiency, timeline, and study design. In the implementation stage, he/she will supervise and perform the project. This includes overseeing workflow and productivity of lab personnel and providing training to them on specific techniques as necessary. Finally, the SRI will be responsible for data analysis, preparation of manuscripts, and presenting research findings through various forums. Senior Research Investigator must demonstrate the ability to analyze and present data in professional "publication ready" format and to be able to independently prepare manuscripts and grant writings for submission.
The individual will act as a senior advisor and staff manager, and will be responsible for leading group meetings, directing students and staff toward project goals. The individual will lead, manage, and develop lab projects by conducting research, writing manuscripts, and pursuing new avenues in tendon basic science, and to submit fundable grants to agencies such as NIH and NSF. The individual should be able to oversee development and design of complex mechanical testing protocols. Experience with universal testing frames (Instron, MTS, Bose) is required.
Qualifications: Extensive experience (10+ years) in programming languages (Matlab, C++, and Labview) and CAD software (Solidworks) is highly desirable. Excellent record keeping, documentation, communication and manuscript writing skills are required.
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree and 5 years of experience (no equivalent combination)
