Job Description Summary
The Laboratory Services Assistant position will work with the Departments of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology. The priority will be the maintenance of the gross anatomy laboratories and the postroom. The position will also provide support for teaching faculty involved with both areas.
Job Description
Responsibilities of the Laboratory Services Assistant include:
- Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the Gross Anatomy Laboratory and Postroom
- Helping with autopsies and dissections in the Gross Anatomy Laboratory and Postroom, both physically and in documentation of specimens.
- Receiving, handling, storing, and disposing of specimens appropriately.
- Maintaining the instruments and supplies in both the Gross Anatomy Laboratory and Postroom.
- Helping faculty, residents, interns, and students when applicable in both the Gross Anatomy Laboratory and Postroom.
- Organizing specimens and teaching materials, making them available for teaching faculty and students when needed.
Qualifications
High School diploma or G.E.D and 1-2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. College degree is preferred.
Working Conditions
Requires extensive safety training; Exposure to chemicals; Alternative work schedules; Requires protective devices; Exposure to moving machinery.
Physical Effort
Frequent lifting 25 lb. or more; Occasional lifting 24-50 lb. Typically standing or walking; Intermittently sitting/standing/stooping
