Northumbria University’s Department of Psychology is seeking applications from excellent occupational/organisational psychologists whose research complements or builds upon our existing strengths, and who possess the skills and abilities to develop our distance learning activity in line with the University strategy.  Within our Occupational and Organisational Psychology team, we have expertise in bullying, careers and wellbeing research and consultancy. The department's further research themes are: Brain, Performance and Nutrition; Health and Wellbeing; Psychology and Communication Technologies; Cognition and Language; Perception, Evolution and Behaviour. 

You will provide expertise in occupational and organisational psychology to further enhance our research, teaching and entrepreneurial activities. As a senior Academic colleague, you will assist the Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor to maintain, enhance and improve the University’s national and international reputation in your academic field. You must demonstrate continuing academic attainment and achievement and provide academic leadership (of your subject and associated colleagues), through active contribution to your discipline and to the life and work of the Faculty and the wider University. This will include contributing to significant change within practice, the discipline, profession and/or community at regional, national and international level.

To be successful in this role you will have externally recognised research outputs of a quality that are internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour, and demonstrable success in securing research funding. You should also demonstrate academic leadership experience and strong standing with external bodies and networks in your field.  Ideally, you will be a Registered Occupational Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (or willing to work towards this) and be able to supervise Doctoral level qualifications which may include PhD, Professional Doctorate or BPS Stage Two Occupational Psychology Trainees.

Our popular Psychology courses cater to a vibrant student community of more than 1000 Undergraduates, including a Business Psychology pathway, and 150 postgraduate students.We currently deliver a BPS accredited MSc Occupational and Organisational Psychology programme,  and will beembarking with our first cohort on a new distance learning version of the same programme (Stage 1 training) in April 2021.   The Department actively works with all academic staff to ensure teaching activity does not come at the expense of research time, and promotes engagement with sabbaticals to facilitate the development of grant submissions and collaborative projects.
