The Head and Neck Oncology Division of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery is seeking a research specialist for managing clinical databases, aiding in analysis of clinical outcomes data, and interacting with patients during the informed consent process of clinical trials. This person should have a bachelor’s degree with experience with R or Python statistical programming languages, and experience with RedCap and previous clinical trial experience would be beneficial. They will obtain ongoing experience and mentorship in the IRB process, management and analysis of clinical databases, preparation and presentation of clinical data, and processes for safety and quality improvement of patients in a large academic health system.
The Department of Otorhinolaryngology has several initiatives that aim to improve the care and outcomes for patients with head and neck cancer. There are multiple ongoing clinical trials and quality improvement initiatives involving all stages of cancer care: from referral flow from the community, diagnosis, surgical and non-surgical treatments, post-operative care, and prevention of post-operative morbidity, mortality, readmission, and reoperation.
Further, the Department has an ongoing research program utilizing national cancer and surgical outcomes databases to evaluate for survival outcomes, readmission and reoperation rates, and socioeconomic factors that influence the care of patients. We have a proven track record of publication in this field and the proposed position will help to expand this program.
The proposed position will aid with all of these efforts by dividing their time between helping to consent patients for ongoing projects, meet regulatory reporting requirements by the institution, and perform data analysis for monitoring of trials, improvement of patient care, and publication of results.
1-2 days per week: in clinical environment helping to consent patients for ongoing trials, and enter patient data into trial databases.
2-3 days per week: analyzing local and national databases including internal clinical trials, national cancer and surgical outcomes databases, and internal quality improvement and patient safety data primarily related to patients with head and neck cancer.
0-1 days per week: Preparing reports for publication in peer reviewed literature, presentation to the department safety officers, or for presentation at national meetings.
This position is contingent on funding.
Bachelor's degree and 0-1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
