About the position

The position is based in the Nigro group, a newly established research group at the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience/Centre for Neural Computation. The Centre for Neural Computation is a Centre of Excellence funded for 10 years by the Norwegian Research Council. The Nigro group at the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience has an opening for a postdoctoral fellow in neurophysiology. The research interest of the lab is to study sensory processing in the cortex and how information from different modalities is combined in high order cortical areas. To this end we employ in vivo and in vitro neurophysiology as well as neuroanatomical techniques. The successful candidate will perform in vivo neurophysiological measurements in head restrained behaving mice during sensory stimulation. The position is funded for 4 years and is full time (100%).

Required selection criteria

Postdoctoral fellow:

  • Must hold a Ph.D. in neuroscience or related quantitative science discipline, with documented experience (such as publications, preprints or conference abstracts)
  • Experience with at least one of the following techniques: in vivo neurophysiology, in vitro slice physiology, in vivo calcium imaging, behavioural neuroscience
  • Must demonstrate an interest in neuroscience
  • The candidate must be proficient in spoken and written English

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.

Preferred selection criteria

  • Experience with programming
  • Experience with rodents and animal surgery
  • Candidates should be able to document prior productivity (e.g. publications, abstracts, conference proceedings, preprints)
  • The candidate should demonstrate ambition by demonstrating a career plan

  • The candidate should be self-motivated
  • The candidate should demonstrate independence (e.g. publications, presentations, institutional engagement, etc)
  • The candidate should work as a team member providing advice, feedback to other group members and actively participate in the laboratory’s life

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral fellowship:

The employment period is 2-4 years depending on the candidate. 

Postdoctoral candidates are placed in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 542 400 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

The position is subject to external funding.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.
