Youth Outreach Specialist
Stanford University’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences’ Center for Youth Mental Health & Wellbeing is seeking a Youth Outreach Specialist. Reporting to the Youth Development Manager, the Youth Outreach Specialist will develop and manage two local youth advisory boards for the pilot implementation of the allcove model at two locations (San Jose and Palo Alto). The two boards will consist of approximately 25 youth ages 16-25.
- Recruiting allcove youth advisory board members.
- Establishing the advisory board structure and presence within the pilot implementation team and allcove center service team.
- Planning and facilitating biweekly -monthly meetings with up to 25 youth ages 16-25 years
- Supporting advisory group members input into allcove projects and programs.
- Developing and implementing training, resources and communication channels.
- Supporting the delivery of education and training initiatives for staff and young people involved in youth participation.
- Ensuring allcove youth participation initiatives and strategies are consistent with the allcove model and strategic plan.
- Developing partnerships with organizations that work within the youth and mental health arena and have a commitment to youth participation.
- Provide strategic advice to the allcove leadership team relating to youth participation issues, strategy and initiatives.
- Mentor youth advisors and develop projects that provide opportunities for skill development.
- Contribute to and implement innovative best practice initiatives based on the needs of young people in relation to mental health issues.
- Participate in activities within the community (e.g. schools, youth forums, and interagency networks) to promote allcove services and mental health literacy.

- Experience working with adolescents and young adults in a mental health, health or social service related field.
- Strong community engagement skills.
- Understanding of contemporary youth participation models and experience in the implementation of youth engagement strategies
- A knowledge of the mental health sector and trauma-informed practices
- Passion and experience working closely with young people
- Strong leadership skills and experience required to work effectively with senior management, staff and a diverse array of multidisciplinary stakeholders.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a broad range of people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive team member
- Ability to work in a highly productive environment with time pressures and while managing multiple tasks
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
- Education and experience working with adolescents and young adults in a mental health or health related field.
- Group facilitation skills.
- Strong community engagement skills.
- Proven track record in building and maintaining effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders such as young people, family members and health professionals from other agencies.
- The ability to plan, implement, deliver and evaluate community awareness projects and mental health literacy programs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including social media as an outreach tool.
- Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Basic analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Customer service skills.
- Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
- Understanding of financial transactions.
- Ability to learn compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
- Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
