Overview

We are seeking highly motivated researcher fellow (postdoctoral research) to join an international collaborative program hosted by CNRS@CREATE. The collaboration partners include SynCTI NUS (https://syncti.org/) and Biotrans A*STAR (https://www.a-star.edu.sg/biotrans/home) in Singapore and Toulouse Biotechnology Institute (http://www.toulouse-biotechnology-institute.fr/en/index.html) and Toulouse White Biotechnology (https://www.toulouse-white-biotechnology.com/en/) in France.

The goal of the program is to provide new and more robust microorganisms better adapted for their target applications for the circular bioeconomy.

Job description and main tasks

The candidate will primarily work on one of the thrusts in the program. The aim for the thrust is to develop synthetic biology technology to create a novel proprietary chassis organism with improved capacity to maintain fitness during high level expression of synthetic metabolic pathways leading to high value metabolite production. This will also involve novel approaches to extend the synthetic biology toolbox and enable accelerated high throughput screening, including developing biosensors and combing.

The tasks include: -

  • To streamline genome for better protein synthesis.
  • To perform shuffling of engineered or natural DNA sequences to control transcription and translation.
  • To identifying the optimal chromosomal context for predictable and optimal expression level of a synthetic pathway with minimal impact on host physiology.
  • To combine biosensors with strain optimization methods to isolate improved strains with beneficial mutations which enhance production.
  • Present scientific and technical data in a clear and cohesive manner.
  • Ensure scientific integrity and documentation of experimental data to meet standards suitable for intellectual property applications and publications.

Salary and Appointment Terms

We offer competitive salary and the period of employment can be up to 3 years. Expected starting date 1st of May 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position will be mainly based in Singapore with possible visiting stays in Toulouse, France. The candidate will be hired by NUS and based in Singapore.

The candidate will have the unique opportunity to closely work and interact with experts from Singapore and France.
