Job description
We seek to appoint a Research Fellow Physiotherapist to support the EC H2020 funded vestibular physiotherapy science HOLOBALANCE project. This ambitious project aims to develop and validate a new personalized hologram coach platform for virtual coaching, motivation and empowerment of the ageing population with balance disorders. The coaching part will be realised by holograms and augmented reality games, along with easy to use sensors (smart bracelet, smart glasses, sensorized soles) that can be customized to implement and coach the user with specific, individualized exercises.

King's is one out of 13 participating partners from 7 European countries, while University of Ioannina (Greece) coordinates the project. The overall work involved for King's involves leading the work regarding the proof of concept study: Design, ethics approval and implementation, emotional computing and gender equality monitoring. The current work by King's will include prospective balance physiotherapy patient monitoring of exercises, baseline assessment and outcome data collection (N=40 for King's), as well as project management & dissemination activities. The final outcome will be the delivery of a radically new cost effective virtual coach, consisting of (i) a hologram based surrogate balance physiotherapist, (ii) an augmented reality cognitive game, combined with auditory exercises and (iii) a physical activity planner. The virtual coach will be accessible daily by the user to improve balance, cognition and physical activity, by promoting exercise compliance, motivation, functional capacity, self-management and self-monitoring.

The post-holder will be based at the Centre of Human and Aerospace Physiological Sciences, Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine, King's College London.
