The Princeton Neuroscience Institute has a Research Manager position available to work in the laboratory of Professor Samuel S.-H. Wang. The lab’s mission is to understand how the cerebellum contributes to the development of cognition and sociality in the mammalian brain, in both typical function and autism. The Research Manager will collaborate with graduate students and postdoctoral research fellows in the lab on various projects related to cerebellar neural circuits. Duties will include the performance of neuroscience experiments, management of data analysis, keeping manuscript and figure preparation on track, and keeping the publication process on track.
The ideal applicant will be a self-directed professional with substantial previous research experience in histology, microscopy, and rodent systems neuroscience methods including surgery and behavior. She/he should also have a significant publication record as first or collaborating author.
This is a one-year term position with the possibility of renewal based on funding and performance. A commitment of at least two years is preferred.
Scientific Project Management:
- Designing and tracking the workflow of individual projects.
- Managing collaborative efforts among lab members.
- Establishing timetables for experiments, analysis, and manuscript preparation.
Direct Experimental work:
- Performance of behavioral and histological experiments in support of collaborative projects.
- Analysis of behavior videos or histological sections.
- Maintaining records and data and collaborating in the design and execution of experiments in collaboration with graduate students and postdocs in the laboratory.
- Contributing to cellular-resolution imaging and in vivo electrophysiology experiments.
- Independent project(s) for the Manager himself/herself.
- Management of graduate and undergraduate personnel in the technical assistance of thesis completion to complement faculty intellectual guidance
- A master’s degree or more in a science or engineering field is required, along five plus years of previous research experience.
- Proficiency in rodent behavioral experiments, including surgical preparation, in vivo viral delivery, behavioral testing including head-fixed and quantitative monitoring.
- Histological tissue preparation and advanced sample handling methods.
- Critical ability in evaluating data, evidence, and project progress.
- Ability to write clear and convincing scientific prose at the level of a leading journal.
- Flexible scheduling for time-critical laboratory needs is a plus.
- Must be able to work in a laboratory environment with normal protective equipment.
- Candidates must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Ph.D. and/or advanced research experience using neuroscience methods.
- Proficiency in any coding language is preferred.
- Significant publication record as first or collaborating author.
