Dynamic and vibrant, Durham University Business School is one of Durham University's four Faculties and is comprised of three research-intensive departments: Accounting, Economics and Finance, and Management and Marketing. Known for its global reputation, its impact on policy and practice and its strong focus on ethics, responsibility and sustainability, the School aims to be a leading European business school with a strong global presence by 2027, The School currently has 180 academic and teaching staff, with plans and resource commitments to grow to 230 by 2027. We seek to appoint an Assistant Professor in Finance, with the goal of developing our expertise in the areas of Financial Econometrics and Quantitative Finance / Fintech. The applicants will be expected to demonstrate excellence in research, the ability to teach our students to an exceptional standard, and willingness to engage in the citizenship services for the department, the university, and the profession. We support our academic colleagues in publishing research in world-class journals, with a focus on quality rather than quantity. Our support for research includes including resources for national and international conference travel, seedcorn funding of research activity, a generous research leave policy, and a designated mentor. We also provide support for developing teaching skills and expertise and for engaging in innovative teaching and learning technologies aimed at continuous improvement of our teaching environment.

Our department is part of the triple-accredited Business School, home to academics whose research is internationally renowned for intellectual rigour and for the benefits it brings to the society. You will be working with colleagues in our research centres of excellence specialised in areas such as Banking, Institutions and Development, Ethical Finance, Accountability and Governance, Economics Analysis and Mechanisms, Quantitative Research in Finance and Economics, and Experimental Methods in Business Research, Environmental and Energy Economics and have the opportunity to work with others across the School and wider University. You will have an opportunity to teach and supervise our excellent undergraduate and postgraduate students and doctoral researchers.
