Full-time, permanent

Brunel University London is continuing to invest in all areas of provision within the Department of Education and we are now looking to appoint two new permanent, full-time lecturers to work on our popular and highly regarded undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes.

We are an outstanding Education Department situated in an ethnically and culturally rich urban and suburban community, which we seek to serve and actively engage with through our portfolio of activities. Our provision is informed by a concern for education in, through and about informal and formal educational contexts.

All our staff are actively engaged in research and scholarly activity and we make a significant contribution in the fields of professional education, educational identities and narratives, equality and diversity, transgressive educational spaces, inclusion and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), higher education policy and practice, literature and education, social mobility, STEM education and interculturality for diversity and global learning.

The Department offers a continuum of provision including: BA Education; PGCE Primary and Secondary programmes with QTS; MA in Education; Professional Doctorate in Education (EdDoc); and PhD in Education, and we are potentially seeking to recruit colleagues who can work in any of these different areas of our portfolio. We are a Department that continues to go from strength to strength in teaching quality and student experience, external engagement activity and research.

  • The NSS for academic year 2019-2020 positions Brunel University London as 1st in London for overall student satisfaction in education programmes.
  • The Department was graded ‘Outstanding’ for both PGCE Primary and Secondary Initial Teacher Education provision in our Ofsted inspection of 2015.
  • In REF 2014 60% of our research was identified as world leading or internationally excellent; 90% of our impact was graded as internationally excellent making us the most improved education Department in terms of 3* and 4* outputs and impact. We are optimistic that our forthcoming REF submission will see further improvements as a result of our commitment to the ongoing development of and support for research in the Department.

The successful applicants will participate in all aspects of planning, teaching and assessment and student support, as well as recruitment and course administration within any of our programmes. If recruited to work on our ITE programmes you will undertake ITE partnership development and quality assurance work. Those recruited to these posts will contribute to the broader activities of the Department, including the supervision of students and doctoral researchers at all levels. There is an expectation for successful applicants to be research active and to contribute proactively to the culture of research and scholarly activity in our academic community.

Successful applicants who go on to work on our ITE programmes will be subject to an enhanced DBS check, childcare disqualification regulations and Teacher Prohibition Order checks.

The application should include a CV and a letter of application which addresses the job description and specification. Each of these documents should be no longer than two sides of A4.

For an informal conversation about this post please contact Dr Anne Chappell, Divisional Lead in the Department of Education via email anne.chappell@brunel.ac.uk

Closing date for applications: Monday 4th January 2021
